About Halpin Plumbing, Inc.
John Halpin joined the US Navy at 17 years old. He served in the Pacific theatre and was stationed on a mine sweeper. His MOS (Military Occupational Skill) was pipe-fitter/boilerman. After the war he returned home to work at US Plumbing on the west side of Cincinnati, where he met and married Grace Cucinotta in 1946.
He told Grace he would like to move to Australia, where he took his rest and relaxation period during service, but she did not want to leave Cincinnati. Like many of the servicemen of the time, he stayed in the reserves. He was called to duty when the United States entered the Korean conflict and was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana. When he left the service after his tour of duty, he returned to Cincinnati and started to work for the JP Dorney Plumbing Company in Hyde Park.
After a while, in 1951, John became discontented and told his wife he wanted to start his own business. With the support of Grace, he started John Halpin Plumbing the same year. He hired his brother-in-law, Angelo, not long after and purchased two used box trucks from Economy Drug Company, one eggshell blue and the other white. Then the business was off and running.
He started the business out of 3599 Evanston Avenue, but moved in 1957 to 2001 Dana Avenue where he remodeled the house in order to have a showroom and an office. In 1959, the company moved to 3299 Linwood and the office stayed at Dana. Joe, John’s youngest son, became very interested in the company in 1978, his Junior year at Purcell Marian High School. Joe worked part-time during the school year and full-time during summers for the family business. He continued to work and then became the owner in 1988 and is currently the owner of Halpin Plumbing Inc. in Roselawn where he employs a staff of 19.
One of those staff members is his second daughter, Skylar Halpin. She joined the company in 2012 after she graduated from college. Her and her dog (Roo, seen on the home page) loved their new job and decided to make a career of it! Since working at the company, Skylar has earned her master plumbing license for the state of Ohio in 2016 and looks forward to growing the company in the future.
